Electric Safari Vehicles
Land Rover Defender
The Land Rover Defender is the pioneer of off-roading and exploring Africa. When people think of going on safari, they picture it being on a Land Rover. Its iconic design, superior off-road capability, and utmost comfort make this the vehicle of choice for many of the best luxury lodges in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our Land Rover Defender is firstly fully restored from the chassis up and then fitted with our electric motor and batteries. Every aspect of the vehicle has been considered and improved. The chassis is galvanized, and all nuts and bolts used are Stainless Steel. Using heavy duty gears in the transfer case, heavy duty suspension and underbody protection, we ensure that this vehicle will withstand the test of time. Fitted with a fully customizable metal dashboard further prolongs the lifespan of the vehicle.
Toyota 79 Series
Our Toyota platform is based on a completely new vehicle from the factory. A basic single cab pick-up is purchased, from which the engine and gearbox are replaced with our electric motor and battery packs. Toyota stands for reliability, and this is what many lodges in some of the most remote parts of the world count on. Once the EV conversion is completed, the driver cab is removed, and the vehicle is converted to a game viewer.

All our vehicles are highly customizable in terms of colours, seating lay-out, and signage. Speak to us about any special requests and we will do our very best to meet the high standards of your lodge.
Technology
Batteries
We use the latest 3rd generation Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery technology in our vehicles to ensure the highest safety standard. Although these dual cell batteries have a lower energy density than conventional Lithium-Ion batteries found in phones and EVs, they do not require cooling and are 100% safe and do not combust or self-ignite under any circumstances.
Motor
Our dual motor is IP67 rated and is custom ordered in Germany for our vehicles. Conventionally used in Mercedes-Benz Firetrucks, these motors give you the reliability and strength you expect, whilst still allowing full 4×4 capabilities.
Accessories
Our vehicles are fitted with USB and USB-C chargers on all rows of the game viewer. Furthermore, optional driver monitoring and Wi-Fi connectivity can be installed providing you and your guests the ultimate experience.
Dual Solar Carport
To be 100% off-grid and eco-friendly, Capricorn EV also offers solar carports with overnight storage for your electric safari vehicle. Solar energy is gathered during the day, and then by the end of the day, the vehicle can be slow charged for the early morning game-drive.
